How are you making an impact for kids, the community, or the network?

Recently served as a four-year advisory school board member for IDEA Charter Schools in Austin from 2016-2020.  At Google, I am working to bridge the gap between what students learn in their universities and what they need to be successful in a technical-facing role.  I’m continuing to do ongoing K-12 professional development sessions for districts on Culturally Responsive Pedagogy and partner with districts to provide students with exposure to tech companies at an early age. Finally, I host an annual back-to-school drive to provide schools with backpacks and resources for their students.

What do you hope to be true for Austin kids, community, and/or the alumni network 10 years from now?

As the city of Austin continues to grow, I would love to see all districts provide students with a high-quality education regardless of their zip code.  After being shut down in a pandemic for over a year, I believe that it’s critical for students to have exposure and access – access to new opportunities, access to greater education, access to success – access they may otherwise not have.  If we are going to eliminate the opportunity gap we need to continue to invest in both our schools and our communities.
